Japanese Culture?
You could've mentioned 節分 (setsubun)!

Every Feb 3rd, Japan has 立春 (risshun), which is seen as a cleansing for the New Year (Japan used to follow the Lunar Calendar).
People would throw cooked soybeans at the door or at a male family member dressed with an Oni mask to symbolize expelling evil spirits.

This is something that is celebrated at both the Shinto AND Buddist shrines... usually with the priests and and speacial guests (celebrities, sumo wrestlers...)throwing the beans, gifts and even money!

Eating a whole uncut roll of makizushi is also seen as a sign of good luck.

This was even on the news in Japan! How'd it not make it to the Ani-Pock News?

I'm STILL stuffed full of sushi and had the pleasure or witnessing my "friend" devour a whole roll in one go... She even put on the Oni mask incase I wanted to throw some beans at her...
