Another year of Ani-Pock!

Hello everyone!

Can you believe it? Another year with Ani-Pock! Now we all might think that we've been on Ani-Pock for years and years, but did you know, Ani-Pock was actually created on Feburary 27, 2005. Yes you read right! 2005! That means up to today, Ani-Pock is only 1 year, 10 months, 5 days old! Amazing huh!

That aside, I want to thank each and every one of you for making Ani-Pock what it is. Without you, Ani-Pock would be a lifeless collection of chat rooms and art boards. But with you, everyday there is someone to talk to (even at the wee hours!), someone to draw with, or something to read about on the blog.

Looking forward, I hope we can grow Ani-Pock, so that we can all meet new people and have more fun. Please make it a goal to tell others, be it friends online or offline about Ani-Pock. Ani-Pock will continue now and forever (even if I can't manage the site, I'll still own the domain Ani-Pock.net and that will point somewhere). Here's to a great year with Ani-Pock, and many more to come!

Your Ani-Pock team,

-Pocky & Meyume

PS- Here is what Ani-Pock used to look like!

Happy New Year

Have a safe 2007, Pockers!

Character Design Competition

*edit*

The competition has been moved to ending on the 8th becuase of some stuff. 8D;
SORRY >w>

Hiiii! Lucy here.
I AM HOLDING A CHARACTER DESIGN COMPETITION! Omfg.
Becuase, me and other people if they want to take part are going to create a manga/animation for ani-pock. But we need characters.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
So! Thats where you come in!
I need you to design characters suitable for the manga/animation. There is no genre of what the character can be, we want all sorts. We also want a bit about this character, like, where they come from, name, age, what it does. >w>
You will need to draw the character, though, if you arn't a good artist, it doesn't matter! We're looking for design, not a pretty picture :3
Please email your entries to lucy@ani-pock.net with your file attached, you're adress (optional), if you can not give out your adress, suggest something you would like on the net (no idea what 8D;) and we will need your biography of the character.
The rules:
1: You can't use the Art-board or windows paint as your media
2: If you are using paper, we need your signature on it
3: If you're using oekaki, we need the linnk to your oekaki
4: If it's a photoshop, you need to email the photoshop file to me.
5: Has to be your own design.
With your email you need to email your adress if you wish to win the lip balm, but if you are not aloud to give out your adress we can think of a alternative prize. You get to pick the flavour of the lip balm, and yes, ti won't be used XDDD unless you want it to be o___o
You don't need to be a good artist, we're not judging on the picture, we're judging on the design. DESIGN D8
Good Luck! *thumbs up*
Competition will end on the 3rd of january! Not long!
ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE EMAIL LUCY@ANI-POCK.NET

The most anime I have seen in 3 minutes.

Hiya minna-san! I was completely amazed by this AMV and so I am sharing, it's done pretty well and includes TONS of Animes.

(Via TokyoMango) Studio Ghibli and Nippon Television collaborated to unveil this gigantic clock--designed by legendary anime director Hayao Miyazaki--in front of the TV station's headquarters last week.

Miyazaki is the man behind the magic of Spirited Away, which won the Best Animated Feature Oscar in 2003. And all his other films are fucking awesome too.

The clock is themed after the one we saw in Howl's Moving Castle.

"I have a message from another time..."

In 1983, young Hideki Anno had just completed a masterpiece promo for the 22nd anime, comic, and Sci-Fi convention in Osaka, Japan. That work went on to be known as DAICON IV.

This and the prequel, DAICON III, were the first works done by a new and talented group of animators who would go on to become GAINAX.

The DAICON IV movie has been mentioned, parodied, or alluded to in a number of different ways over the past decade:
In the infamous Otaku no Video, DAICON IV is mentioned as a major event in anime history.
In eppisode five of FLCL, the main character does a rendition of the special movie, and even yells out, "DAICON V!"
In the new Japanese dramedy, Train Man (Densha Otoko), the big anime character created for the series is a direct parody of the main character of the DAICON film. The opening theme is also a modern remake of the film.

If you were to find an original lazerdisc of this video it will be worth a lot of money. Because so many copywrighted characters were featured in the film, the DAICON vendors had to sell a convention book with a free copy of the video included!

A daikon is a Japanese radish (that's the ship featured in the end of episode III and the beginning of IV).

If you haven't watched it yet, and I know a lot of you have, here is D-IV in all its glory:

And here is a copy of the opening from Densha Otoko, with a comparison PIP.

New Anime on Ani-Pock! "Mujin Wakusei Survive"

Hi all! I know most of you are on break now, so your anime time has increased right? I've just added 12 episodes of Mujin Wakusei Survive anime to Ani-Pock.

I think Kip originally suggested this, and I watched a few and enjoyed them!

Here is a blurb from Anime News Network:

In the future, most of mankind lives in artificial space colonies, climate-controlled and completely safe. The orphan girl Luna, selected to receive a scholarship at the prestigious Soria Academy, finds herself in quite different circumstances. An excursion gone terribly awry leads to Luna and her classmates being stranded on an uninhabited planet. Without any experience of untamed nature, the motley crew is faced with a challenging struggle to stay alive until rescue comes. If it comes..

To watch, click on the Death Note section then choose Mujin... from the selector!

Death Note Anime Episode 11 Added

Death Note Anime Episode 11 has been added to the Death Note section. Please let me know if you encounter any problems by leaving a comment on this post.

Also, I am thinking of exapanding the anime offerings on Ani-Pock. If you know of a good anime you'd like to share, and that is already on YouTube, leave a comment!

Hiyo!~ Minna-san! It looks like the "Reveal Ani-Pock Community" game is in full swing now. Thanks all for playing and thanks for making the game look spiffy Pocky. It's been really fun to read the questions and answers, and I wonder who'll be next. XD Anyway, I was also thinking about some sort of contest, but I'll let you guys decide what you want to do. ^.^ I'm just throwing this out there to see if anyone is interested and if they are what kind of contest do they want? Here are just some ideas, a drawing contest, an AMV contest, Ani-Pock layout design contest, just I don't know something fun to think about since all of you other people on here have a nice christmas break. I feel for those who only have Christmas off for a break. *huggles Chikyuu* At least we share the pain on this one, right Chikyuu? ^_~

Luv,
Rin

Krispy Kreme comes to Japan

(Via Japanprobe) Here’s a report on the store from Real Time News earlier this week:

According to Dani over at Random Musings From Tokyo, Krispy Kreme was offering 50 dozen free donuts over the next year to the first customer who bought a doughnut on opening day.

Thats 600 doughnuts!!

The report was filmed before the official opening day, so the reporter was given a special sneak preview of the store. Of particular interest was Krispy Kreme’s famous original glazed donut, which has recipe that only a handful of people on earth know. One of the men who knows the super-secret recipe, Jim Smith, was on hand to help the Japanese store staff prepare their initial batch of doughnuts. After a few tries, they are able to make doughnuts that are up to Jim’s standards, so they decide to go out on the streets and give out free boxes of doughnuts to passerbys. A huge line of interested people quickly formed, obviously happy to get their hands on a free box of thickly-glazed doughnuts. The news casters seemed to have bought into the hype by basically endorsing the new product by gorging down on them in the studio.

Amazing All-in-One Japanese Kitchen appliance!

A whole breakfast ready in 10 minutes! Details:

(Via TokyoMango)
This Japanese kitchen appliance lets you make toast, fried eggs, and coffee all in one go, without having to worry about micromanaging two stove top burners and a coffeemaker. It is lovingly called the "Wake Up Morning Set," and--in case you care--expends 1140W of energy when all three functions are in play.

It's pretty simple to use. Just pop a slice of bread in the toaster and twist the timer to the desired burntness. Then put some ground coffee bean in the filter and switch that part on. To fry your egg, simply flick the other toaster switch, crack your egg, and the heat from the toaster will start to warm up the metal plate on top. The whole breakfast takes about 10 minutes tops to make.

Nintendo Wii Injury!! Careful!

This is mainly for Rin, one of the few people that actually have a Nintendo Wii! This is also a warning for people that play Wii with Rin XD

More cell phone straps: put your face on one!

(Via TokyoMango)
Now YOU can be a cell phone strap icon, too! Select a figurine from several clothing and body type options--a kimono, a monkey from ancient Chinese folklore, a sheep, a forune-bringing ceramic cat, or an afro-sporting, bell-bottom wearing soul train dancer--and order it from Rakuten.

A faceless figurine will be delivered to your house a few days later. Then, take a photograph of yourself--or your baby, or your dog, or your girlfriend, or your boss, or whoever--and send it to the manufacturer for resizing. Seven to ten days later, you'll get the picture back in a 3D, face-fitting format that you can snap into the figurine.

Wii-mote for only $5!!!! (well sorta...)

(Via PlasticBamboo)
A Wii may be out your budget, or perhaps they’ve all sold out where you are, but Strap-ya has come to the rescue with a W11, their version of Nintendo’s console as a mobile phone strap.

Not only does the strap look amazing, but it also can be used as a whistle (for security). Its supposed to make a "wiiiiii" sound. Get it? XD

The W11 is available now for 589 yen ($5/£2.60).

Reveal the Ani-Pock Community

Hello minna! (everyone) Today, I am going to introduce the REVEALING GAME! Yaaaaaayyy! *cues Ani-Pock game music* As everyone knows the Ani-Podcasts are sooo much fun to listen to or to be featured in, but the podcasts are limited in number and members who are featured, so I came up with an idea that can be really fun. Every week a member is selected from the Ani-Pock Memberlist and it will be posted who that member is, then everyone else can comment under the post any questions that they want to ask about that member, but please keep in mind to keep the questions decent, undecent questions will be deleted. Anyhow, after a week goes by the member that is selected will answer the questions in an email and mail it to Pocky to post on the blog. The member will also attach in their email to Pocky the next's week victim ^^;, I mean contestant. >XD So since this is Pocky's site, I'd figured I'd open it up and volunteer Pocky as the first contestant. Leave him any questions under the comment box. *goes to ask one now* Please, join in everyone, because that way everyone can play and be the "contestant". YAY!! Let's do it!!!

~Rin (muwahahaha what a surprise for Pocky)

Note: Depending on the number of questions the contestant may choose to select a certain number of questions to answer to, but if you do make sure you randomnly pick which questions are to be answered.

NEC's Waterproof Laptop

(Via PlasticBamboo)
Everyone’s favourite 3-letter company NEC, (no-one likes JVC), has developed the ShieldPro waterproof laptop. The FC-N21S notebook can also withstand temperatures as cold as -20 degrees Celsius, and can be dropped from a height of 90cm. NEC say the 2.5kg machine will go on sale in January for 300,000 yen (£1,326/$2,607).

Japanese Marshmellow Game

Pocky here! This is a clip from a Japanese gameshow. In this clip the contestants have to put a rubberband around their head (the other end attached to the wall) and try to eat marshmellows hanging out on farther reaching strings. Watch!

Anime University? =D

Meyume present! n_n

We all know about all the different colleges and universities, but what if there's more? Talking around with my friends, Shinichi brought up something that I found interesting, and in fact, it even tricked her!
OTAKU UNIVERSITY

Now, just cause it says "university" in the title, dosen't mean that it really is that. In fact, OU, is really a school for students who want to advance in drawing, or just a gathering/conference for those who have interests in the art, language, culture, and other aspects that take place through the wonderful world of comics and such! =D

You are able to take classes there to improve in the arts, but it does not count for college credit, or anything of the sort.

Here's some information from the site:
The attendee hobbies that have integrated themselves into the typical convention curriculum have yet to promote these individuals to take their skills to the next level. Otaku University plans to set a new bar in how anime-based events, such as conventions, cater their events to attendees...

Make your Gabbly Login now!!

Hey all!!!!

Gabbly has added a login feature!!!

Register now! Click here!

Once you have registered, you can add an avatar here.
Note it will take about 10 minutes before the avatar shows up.

Where did Gabbly chat go?

Update: Gabbly seems to back up. Restored! Refresh or quit and reopen your browser until gabbly is back.

Hi all,

Gabbly recently launched some new features, but it has made the basic chat system buggy. The chat is usually laggy and the list that shows who is in the room is broken. I am taking gabbly off while they fix the bugs.

In the mean time we will test out this Java based system. If you can't see the chat window, it is probably because you need to update your Java. You can update it here.

This Java chat has some cool features. For one thing, you can send Private Messages by double clicking on a persons name in the list!

Please leave a comment if you have problems with the chat system. Again, I took Gabbly down because it is not working.

Thanks, Pocky

Ani-Pock 2006 Holiday Card

Update: If you previously could not find one you liked, I have added 200 more avatars to choose from!
Hey all! I would like to make a "Holiday Card" for Ani-Pock this year.
Basicly it would be a bunch of us represented as avatars like theses shown at left.

All you have to do is pick an avatar using the Avatar Chooser!

Then I will assemble them into a big picture with a nice holiday background. Kinda like a school picture for Ani-Pock. It would look kinda like this one I made along time ago, but with names showing who is who.

Okay open the Avatar Chooser to get started!

Real Life Power Ranger

When I first read this article, I thought it would make a great headline for Jay Leno's infamous late night talk show segment. But in all seriousness this kid (only four years old, by the way) has some serious guts.

As his family was being held at gunpoint up by robbers, Sevie Long (above) stuck away to his room to don his red Power Ranger costume. When he returned to the hold up, he waived his sword in front of the robbers and shouted at them to get away from his family.

The robbers fled shortly after and abandoned a plan to take Jennifer Long, Stevie's mother, to an ATM to withdraw cash.

Japanese Kids Super-gluing Wii Controllers to Their Hands

(Via BBspot) Tokyo, Japan – Nintendo turned a lot of heads with their new wireless game controller that uses motion sensors to direct action on the screen. A growing problem, however, losing their grip on the controller and throwing them through their TVs or injuring others...
...Kids in Japan have taken the innovative approach of using superglue to attach the Wii-mote to their hands. Parents see the approach as silly and dangerous, but teens in Japan see being Wii-handed as a status symbol.

"I like the Wii controller permanently on my hand. I never have to search for it, and the other kids think it is cool," said Yugi Tamagotchi of Tokyo.
