"Hello?" "Run and duck for cover!"

Earthquakes are a common occurrence in Japan, and breaking news reports that there seems to be a new approach to warning citizens of the island nation of these tremors using the nation's extensive network of cell phones.

Here's a snippet from a news article concerning the new service:

Japan's two biggest [wireless] operators, NTT DoCoMo and KDDI, said they are jointly developing a system to notify customers of an imminent earthquake, while number three Softbank said it is separately working on a similar service.

The cellphone companies hope to have a system launched in 2008.

The system will pass on information from the Japanese meteorological agency which has developed a way of detecting earthquakes several seconds before the main tremor strikes.

THE KUROGOMA KING! Do Want Moar: Part V.

Black Sesame Pocky:

Homigawd homigawd homigawd!

What can you say about the ultimate?
Sweet. Strong. Unique.

It has the pallete pleasing taste of something quite different than you may be used to. The sesame tastes almost burnt… but in a good way! Certainly a nutty undertone.

Like the Kinako and Green Tea Pocky flavors, this one is a part of the Healthy Pocky line, meaning it is made with all-natural ingredients (and is slightly better for you I suppose).

The real secret behind the unique flavor is the nutrition rich forbidden rice (right). Oooh!!!

Okay, whew! Watch me not shut up about this flavor. XDDD
Try this one. I love it!

I paid US 3.00 for mine. It's a seasonal item, so you have to come at the right time to get it.
Will pay moar, do want moar!

Make a paper Shuriken - Origami

Hey peoples, Chiky here, I have found The best and easiest (That I've found) video tutorial on how to make an origami star. You usually start out with a square piece of paper, but with this you can learn how to make a rectangle piece of paper square. I've already made 2 and colored them both, giving on to my Mom (Nothin' says I love you more than a paper Japanese ninja weapon!!)

So anyway here we go!

Pocky in Review. Part: The Fourth!

Grape Pocky:

Has a distinct fermented grape taste. They ought to call it wine Pocky.

The grape flavor is light. The chocolate adds an interesting touch, doesn’t quite compliment the grape flavor. I don’t know if they all come this way, but mine was more ‘decorated’ as the grape flavor was swizzled around the chocolate. Hmm.

The picture at the left is how mine looked, but there is some all-out grape Pocky out there too.

Oooh, the one at the right is grape crush. NEAT!
I paid US 3.50 for mine. I couldn't find a Euro equivalent price, but I assume it would be about equal seeing as the last boxes were about the same price.

Miss Universe 2007 winner from Japan

Here she is!

ABC Radio Australia: "Japan's first Miss Universe victory in nearly 50 years has brought a welcome note of light relief to the country on Tuesday, amid a raft of grim domestic news.

Television stations showed Riyo Mori being crowned winner of the contest in Mexico, beating other finalists from countries such as Brazil and Venezuela.

The 20-year-old dancer is from Shizuoka prefecture, south of Tokyo.

Ms Mori has become only the second Japanese woman to take the top prize at Miss Universe.

Last year Kurara Chibana, another Japanese contestant, came second in the pageant.

The win came after months of preparation by Ms Mori, who said in a recent interview with Metropolis magazine in Tokyo that she had been to France to learn the right mannerisms and interview skills.

A spokeswoman for Shizuoka town hall says employees there are thrilled and are considering how best to celebrate Mori's return home."

Who Dat Pocky? Part 3.

Roast Pretz!:
Mmm, meaty.

Not technically Pocky, but a… er… father, I guess.

Well, the flavor of this one is a bit bland. But, if you eat a lot, it does taste kinda meaty actually.

Roasted chicken, maybe? You try!

Retails US or EU 1.75 to 2.50.

Also pictured, Salad Pretz!
OMG!

Okay. I had to try that. Like the Yorkie bar…
Not for girls. XD

The chocolate is darker, slightly more bitter. Fun little treat. I’d buy more of this.

Pocky Review

Hello everyone! What's with all the anime all the time? XD
We hardly ever mention the other half of this site's namesake anymore: POCKY!
I'd like to give a week long review on some Pocky flavors I've tried. Each day I will present a new flavor that you may want to consider trying.
If you tried that one, leave a comment on what you thought of it as well. If you can post, feel free to leave a review on a Pocky flavor you tried.

I'd be lying if I were to say I wasn't doing this to entice more people to join the forum posting contest.
Still going on.
Plenty of RPG action to be had. Right, TeenLink?

These Pocky flavor reviews are in no particular order, but I think I'll start with the one we are most familiar with.

Chocolate Pocky:

What can you say about a classic?

Slightly sweet biscuit. Regular milk chocolate.
It’s a handy snack!
Be careful. You might just eat the whole box at once.
Retails approximately US or EU 1.50 to 3.00 for the standard 100g box.

Cars. Weapons. Robots. Can it get any better?

This week marked some of the first new and out-of-theatre trailers for the upcoming Transformers movie, which will be released in most theatres worldwide in July.

Based on the the highly popular anime series, Transformers the movie is a retelling of the Autobot vs. Decepticon battle on planet Earth. The story goes: the Autobots were sent to Earth a long time ago to protect humankind from an attack from the Decepticons who live on the planet Cybertron, far out in the universe. The Decepticons jump from planet to planet looking for fuel supplies as their own continue to dwindle. Earth is the Decepticons' next target as it is ripe with the fuel they need, and they will try any means necessary to get it.

Here is a trailer:

The Transformers series has been made into a movie before, but this is the first live-action version.

Free high quality anime!

Hi everybody, Chikyuu here! I just wanted to let all of you guys know there is this thing online that I just found out about a week ago. It's called Veoh, and you can download all kinds of high quality anime to your computer free of charge! You can even get it delivered to your house to watch it on T.V.! Pretty cool huh? Before you splurge wildly like I've been in the past week (19.5 hours of it and counting!), you need to know how to get started

1. Go to veoh.com (No kidding...)
2. Sign up and confirm your email address and such
3. Then go to any random video you find and click 'download' to get to the Veoh player downloading area.
4. Download the player.
5. Be sure to restart your browser by closing all internet browsing windows afterwards.
6. Go back to the website and type in the title of what anime you want to watch to find it.
7. Click on the episode you want, and click the 'download' button (With "to my computer" in the drop-down box underneath it)
8. Wait a while and play it in your library section!
9. (optional) if you don't have it yet, you'll need the DivX codec to watch some videos, but it'll tell you before you watch a video if you need it, the codec is all you need.

And after that just download the ones you want! It's really high quality and full length! I haven't downloaded any so I'm not sure if there are any dubs... Just subs I think... But oh well. Also after you download all the available episodes of a certain series, if the series isn't complete, you can subscribe to a series and whenever a new episode comes out, it'll automatically be downloaded for you! HAHA!

Well have fun with it, I know I do!

Hey all! A new "AP Community" blog is being created right now. The posters have just been sent an invitation to join it. Creating this new blog will help separate all the cool stuff you guys find on the web from the Japanese culture news. Soon there will be two tabs in the main area of Ani-Pock:

Stay tuned! -Pocky

Cool, desho?

Whee! I love these.

This is a picture of one of the many sidewalk "perspective" drawings, made famous by Julian Beever, sweeping popular art.

Depending on how you look at it, the sidewalk drawing appears to be three-dimensional or very deformed. For example, looking at this drawing from an incorrect angle actually causes it to appear like this!

This image is from a Japanese artist who does other sidewalk drawings like this. You can see more of these and different drawings from other worldwide artists on Hemmy.net.

Henry VIII (Cont)

Ok, lets see...

I left off at...

Henry VIII and Katherine of Aragorn were very much in love, but Katherine was unable produce a male heir for him. He had only two mistresses during his marriage to Katherine (Which was considered a very small amount compared to the french kings of the time) They're names were Bessie Blount and Mary Boleyn. He had a son with Bessie Blount, Henry Fitzroy, who was later made a duke in an attempt to ligitimatize him. By 1526 though, he had begun to separate from Katherine because he had fallen in love with one of her ladies in waiting, (and sister of one of his mistresses) Anne Boleyn.

It is here that the lives of Henry's first and second wives begin to interweave. By the time his interest in Anne became common knowledge, Catherine was 42 years old and was no longer able to conceive. Henry's main goal now was to get a male heir, which his wife was not able to provide. Somewhere along the way, Henry began to look at the texts of Leviticus which says that if a man takes his brother's wife, they shall be childless. As evidenced above, Catherine and Henry were far from childless, and still had one living child. But, that child was a girl, and didn't count in Henry's mind. The King began to petition the Pope for an annulment on the very same marriage his father had the pope grant special permission for.

Anne was the opposite of the pale, blonde-haired, blue-eyed image of beauty. She had dark, olive-colored skin, thick dark brown hair and dark brown eyes which often appeared black. Those large dark eyes were often singled out in descriptions of Anne. She clearly used them, and the fascination they aroused, to her advantage whenever possible. Anne was steadily rising in power in court. On the first day of September 1532, she was created Marquess of Pembroke, a title she held in her own right. In October, she held a position of honor at meetings between Henry and the French King in Calais. Anne denied the king of sexual favors, stating that she would not be his mistress, it was to be queen or nothing. Sometime near the end of 1532, Anne finally gave way and by December she was pregnant. To avoid any questions of the legitimacy of the child, Henry was forced into action. Sometime near St. Paul's Day (January 25) 1533, Anne and Henry were secretly married. Although the King's marriage to Katherine was not dissolved, in the King's mind it had never existed in the first place, so he was free to marry whomever he wanted. On May 23, the Archbishop officially proclaimed that the marriage of Henry and Catherine was invalid.

By August, preparations were being made for the birth of Anne's child, which was sure to be a boy. Names were being chosen, with Edward and Henry the top choices. The proclamation of the child's birth had already been written with 'prince' used to refer to the child.
Anne took to her chamber, according to custom, on August 26, 1533 and on September 7, at about 3:00 in the afternoon, the Princess Elizabeth was born. Her christening service was scaled down, but still a pleasant affair. Anne now knew that it was imperative that she produce a son. By January of 1534, she was pregnant again, but the child was either miscarried or stillborn. In 1535, she was become pregnant again but miscarried by the end of January. The child was reported to have been a boy. Anne was quite upset, and blamed the miscarriage on her state of mind after hearing that Henry had taken a fall in jousting. She had to have known at this point that her failure to produce a living male heir was a threat to her own life, especially since the King's fancy for one of her ladies-in-waiting, Jane Seymour, began to grow...

~Anime Short: "Kigeki" (trans. Comedy)~

Hello everyone, how are you? Well, a member on here known as "Ciel" showed this video to me a week ago and thought perhaps I should share it with you guys as well. It's a good idea, since I really haven't seen anime in the form of a short before. There's not much I can give you for background info, but this short was made by Studio 4 C and is about 10 minutes, being the full length version. The artwork is breathtakingly beautiful coupled with the instrumental pieces throughout it creates a wonderful gothic atmosphere. At the end it had me craving for more, but this is quite an amazing short. I hope you enjoy. Thanks Ciel. ^^

In summary this short is about a young girl from Ireland seeking out the help from the infamous 'Black Swordsman' to help fight against the invading British soldiers. The Swordsman never accepts money to pay for his services, but he does offer his services in return for a rare book. Apparently a lot of books during that time were burned and laughter was scarce to none, so that's where the title comes in. The little girl offers a comedy to the Swordsman for his services.

Discussion topics:
1.) What sort of mystical creature do you think the Black Swordsman is? (there is no right or wrong answer. ^.~ I'm interested to see what you guys think.)
2.) If you were the Black Swordsman, what sort of genre of books would you accept worth your services?

Suspended Animation (Not the drawn kind...)

The body bag was all zipped up on Mitsutaka Uchikoshi. He had been missing for weeks and was found lying cold in the snow with no life signs. On the way to the hospital to have his body identified, something amazing happened.

...He woke up.

Suspended animation may just be the next big medical breakthrough. Induced comatic states have been said to be the best way to increase a patent's chance of survival. Much like hibernation, a state of suspended bodily animation causes the body to nearly stop functioning aside from some minor metabolic processing and light breathing. The body is very much alive, but functioning at a slower pace than normal.

Thanks to Mitsutaka's unfortunate accident (more about it here) scientists believe they are getting closer to engineering a instantaneous comatic inducing agent that can preserve the body after a number of critical medical situations including serious injuries and even strokes. Because Mitsutaka entered a state of hibernation, it seems he was able to survive exposure to cold temperatures for those long weeks.
For more information about Mitsutaka and suspended animation engineering, be sure to check out this month's issue of Discover magazine.

How do you get to the information superhighway from here!?!

Yay! I too am done with finals! But full-time work is calling now... T.T
Take a look at this:

Here we have a map of the blogosphere (network of online "journals" or "diaries"). This is a comprehensive image of all of the links any blog or networking service share. Baby Drop-Off?

All right, here's something that my dad told me about just now, which, I thought might be a bit interesting?

Japan's first baby drop-off hatch is open, here's some information about it:

"This has finished building a controversial baby drop-off point allowing people to anonymously drop off newborn babies they do not want to raise.

The drop-off point, named “Akachan Posuto: Konotori no Yurikago” (Baby Postbox: Stork’s Cradle), is the first of its kind in Japan. It consists of a hatch measuring 50 centimeters by 60 centimeters that opens to a warmed bed where newborn babies can be placed.

When the hatch is opened, a sensor is activated, and workers in the hospital are alerted with a buzzer. A camera placed above the bed also sends images of the baby to a monitor."

This is a pretty controversial topic in Japan, seeing as they would rather not help with the idea of abandonment, but rather, help the parents that really can't take care of the child.
Here's a video.

Soooooooooo, along with that article, I have this for you all:

Japan Irked Toddler Put in Baby Drop Box

By HANS GREIMEL, Associated Press Writer
Wednesday, May 16, 2007

"Japan's first anonymous drop box for unwanted babies triggered a wave of anger and soul searching Wednesday after it was discovered that a preschooler — and not an infant — was left by his father on the service's first day.

Newspapers condemned the father and warned that the operation was open to abuse and could traumatize youngsters.

The drop-off for infants, known as "Stork's Cradle," was begun May 10 by the Roman Catholic-run Jikei Hospital in the southern city of Kumamoto to discourage abortions and the abandonment of children in unsafe public places. The same day, a boy now believed to be 3 was found inside.

The boy, who was in good health, reportedly said he was left by his father, who was seen holding the youngster's hand as they approached the hospital. They apparently rode Japan's bullet train to Kumamoto, but it was unclear where they lived.

"I came with Daddy," the boy was quoted as saying by the Mainichi newspaper. Local media reported the boy was able to identify himself by name, but it was unclear whether the father had been identified.

The revelation of the boy's age Tuesday triggered outrage among political leaders, with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe saying that "anonymously throwing out a child is unacceptable." He urged parents to consult social workers for help if raising children gets too tough. The hospital has refused to comment on the case, citing privacy concerns, but said there were age limits on its drop-off service.

Police have decided no crime was committed because the child was left in a situation in which it was not exposed to immediate harm, Kyodo News reported Wednesday.

A small hatch in the side of the hospital allows anyone to anonymously put a baby into an incubator 24 hours a day. It was created after a series of high-profile cases in which newborns were abandoned in parks and supermarkets.

"We must rethink the meaning of the baby drop-off," the conservative Sankei newspaper said in an editorial. It called the boy's abandonment "unforgivable," saying that "unlike a baby, a toddler may suffer from trauma."

The Yomiuri newspaper said it was too early to judge the baby drop, but said it must be used for its original purpose of receiving newborns, not young children."

Oooh The Little Mermaid.

This is The Little Mermaid. Anime version which is much more true to the book that of the Disney Version. I don't feel like typing out all that the book is about considering it is so complicated, so I am going to make a refererence from the wikipedia page

The Little Mermaid lives at the sea bottom with her father the Sea King, her grandmother, and her five older sisters, born one year apart. When a mermaid turns 15, she is allowed to swim to the surface to watch the world above, and as the sisters become old enough one of them visits the surface every year. As each of them returns the Little Mermaid listens longingly to their descriptions of the surface and human beings.
When the Little Mermaid turns 15 she ventures to the surface. She sees a ship with a handsome prince, and falls in love with him from a distance. There comes a great storm, and the prince almost drowns, but the Little Mermaid saves him and she delivers him unconscious to the shore near a temple. Here she waits until he is found by a young girl from the temple. The prince never sees the Little Mermaid.
The Little Mermaid asks her grandmother whether humans can live forever if they do not drown. She is told that no, humans have an even shorter lifespan than mermaids. Mermaids live for 300 years, but when they die they turn to sea foam and cease to exist. Humans, on the other hand, have a short lifespan on earth, but they have an eternal soul that lives on in heaven even after they die. The Little Mermaid spends her days longing for the prince and for an eternal soul. At last she goes to the Sea Witch who sells her a potion that gives her legs, in exchange for her tongue; the Little Mermaid has the most intoxicating voice in the world. But drinking the potion will make her feel like a sword is being passed through her, and walking on her feet will feel like walking on knives. And she will only get a soul if the prince loves her and marries her, for then a part of his soul will flow into her. Otherwise, at dawn on the first day after he marries another woman, the Little Mermaid will die broken-hearted and turn to sea foam like other merfolk.
The Little Mermaid drinks the potion and meets the prince, who is attracted to her beauty and grace even though she is mute. Most of all he likes to see her dance and she dances for him even though it feels like dancing on knives. The prince loves her like one loves a child.
The time comes when the king decides that the prince is to marry the neighboring king's daughter. The prince tells the Little Mermaid that he will not marry the princess because he does not love her. He can only love the young girl who once saved his life, the girl who unfortunately belongs to the temple. He also tells the Little Mermaid that she is beginning to take the temple girl's place in his heart. However, it turns out that the princess is the temple girl; she had only been sent to the temple to be educated. The prince loves her and the wedding is announced.
The prince and princess are married and the Little Mermaid's heart breaks. She thinks of all that she has given up in order to be with the prince and to gain an eternal soul - her beautiful voice, her wonderful home, her loving family, her life - and of all the pain that she has suffered; all without the prince ever having a thought thereof. She despairs, but before dawn her sisters come to her and give her a knife that the Sea Witch has given them in exchange for their hair. If the Little Mermaid slays the prince with the knife she will become a mermaid again and be able to live out her full life under the sea.
But the Little Mermaid cannot bring herself to kill the sleeping prince lying with his bride and, as dawn breaks, throws herself into the sea. Here her body dissolves into sea foam, but instead of ceasing to exist, she feels the warmth of the sun; she has turned into a spirit, a daughter of the air. The other daughters of the air tell her that she has become like them because she, like them, strove with all her heart to gain an eternal soul. As a mermaid her gaining a soul was dependent on another, the prince; but as a daughter of the air she will earn her own soul by doing good deeds. When 300 years have passed she will have earned her soul and will rise into the kingdom of God. This time can be shortened: with each good child she finds she subtracts a year, while she adds a day for each tear she must shed over a wicked child.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Little_Mermaid

I saw this version on Youtube and it got me very excited actually. I've read the book, but honestly didn't have the heart to finish it. I was too mad that she didn't just stab her prince. I really like this version, I love both of them. Disney's The Little Mermaid has always been one of my favorite movies. I suppose a little kid just wouldn't understand some of the lessons and philosophies taught in the book, so they had to make it more G rated than the book. This version also spiked my curiousity when I saw it because it was an anime. I reccomend checking out the rest of the movie on Youtube. Its interesting to see how this differs from the Disney version and the ideas and beliefs that is poses.

Would you have killed your prince?

So yeah. This was my first post. Comment and tell me if it was dumb or not ^_^

Japan’s cutest character! As designed by committee

FROM: whatjapanthinks.com:

At the weekend トリビアの泉, Trivia no Izumi, Fount of Trivia looked at that most vital of questions, what is cuteness. They gathered together five top researchers in the field who spent seven hours designing the ultimate in cuteness. This character was passed on to the chief Hello Kitty designer for final touch up and presentation to the world.

But before we get to that, they also surveyed the public to find out what they thought Japan’s cutest character was.

5. DoCoMoDaKe

The main character for NTT DoCoMo’s mobile phones, which I personally don’t particularly like, although I do have a mobile phone strap somewhere that I got free from DoCoMo.

4. Rilakkuma

A San-X character, Sanrio for “adults”. I think he’s extremely cute myself, and in fact my mobile phone wallpaper is him in the bath with his friend and a couple of birds.

3. Hello Kitty

The cutest kitten in Japan and she can only make number three?

2. Mickey Mouse

Can’t stand the rat myself.

1. Pooh Bear

Or Winnie the Pooh, if like me you grew up on the A.A. Milne tales illustrated by Ernest H. Shepherd long before I ever saw the Disney makeover. It was the Disney image that was selected, but I’m a traditionalist so you’ll have to make do with real bear of very little brain.

So, back to the cutest character by committee: the result of the research was this wee sparrow desperate to be hugged:

If Sponge Bob were an anime...

Japanese and Americans read faces differently

(Via BoingBoing.net) "A new study is out showing cultural differences in reading cues. Japanese folks focus on people's eyes to get nuanced expression information while Americans tend to focus on the mouth. The most interesting part of all of this is that it plays out in the emoticons that folks use:"

So when Yuki entered graduate school and began communicating with American scholars over e-mail, he was often confused by their use of emoticons such as smiley faces :) and sad faces, or :(.

'It took some time before I finally understood that they were faces,' he wrote in an e-mail. In Japan, emoticons tend to emphasize the eyes, such as the happy face (^_^) and the sad face (;_;). 'After seeing the difference between American and Japanese emoticons, it dawned on me that the faces looked exactly like typical American and Japanese smiles,' he said.

Hey PC this is just like when we were talking about how you look at peoples mouths when they talk and I look at their eyes!

Starlight Moonlight AMV

Hi Hi this is Rose and while on youtube I found this amv that I really liked the first time I watched it.

The song in the amv is called Starlight ni Kisu Shite which I think translates to Hero Kiss the Starlight according to animelyrics.tv and animelyrics.com (on another site it translates to Kissing in the Starlight). The song is preformed by the japanese voice actress of Sailor Jupiter Shinohara Emi.

Anyhoo, I thought you'd like this amv because its a really pretty song plus the amv doesn't cover just one anime. The song fits the amv perfectly in my opinion. Enjoy this and let this also serve as a stress reliever for those who are taking exams!

Update #1: (Please note the amv is mixed anime!) The song title Starlight ni Kisu Shite translates to Kissing the Starlight as I found out from Purly. Thanks for pointing this out!

Windows XP PC inside an old Nintendo Gameboy

Via PlasticBamboo:

"Some inventive oddbod has successfully fitted a fully functioning Windows XP PC inside an old Nintendo Gameboy. The device can be connected to a monitor via a normal VGA port, while you can browse the Internet using the built-in network connection. What’s more, they’ve added two USB ports and replaced the A and B buttons with LEDs showing power and activity. Windows XP is installed on a Compact Flash card that’s conveniently inserted into the Gameboy’s cart slot."

Lucy sent me this music last week, and I really like it! I found the music video on YouTube, so enjoy! I especially like the piano part (around 1:24)

I must say... strange music video though >_>

Update #1: Here is a version I found of just the girl solo dancing the whole song:

Apparently it is called the "Strong Machine 2 Version"

Hot rice from cold water

A group of researchers in Japan has developed a new type of non-perishable food pack, called “Hotto! Raisu” (Hot Rice), that is capable of producing hot rice with the addition of cold water.

By subjecting rice to 4,000 times normal atmospheric pressure, the developers were able to preserve rice for long periods in a soft form that holds moisture. When water is poured over an exothermic agent in the pack, steam warms the rice contained within, and after about 15 minutes, the dish is piping hot.

Cosplay Headache Cap~!

Haaaai~! Purly here!

Sorry to have kept you all waiting~ I finally got started on the prototype of my new ubercute cap with ears on top! <3

...

I have to have it ready by tomorrow, when I'll be sewing the real deal on my granny's sewing machine, so I gotta hurry~~~~

Here's a picture of the cutout I thought up and pinned together:

The measurements of the hat are based on my own head. Mine is bigger then most girls my age... Ah anyway, I measured my head over the top from ear to ear and a circle around where I want it to sit, and devided both in two, ya know, cuz it's made out of two halves XD

I'm making it out of two layers of pink fleece, and the buttons will be covered with navy felt. Always liked that color combination <3

Feel free to use the template to make your own hat. Don't forget to take a picture when you do, I'ld totally LOVE to see what you guys look like <3

Love ya, and now I gotta get to work~!

May 2nd for Music Fans.

As HappY as this day is for some, it also is a day of mourning for others.
For some reason, people STILL seem to mix up "hide" (pronounced "he" as in "HE DID IT", "de" as in "day") with "Hyde" (pronounced "Hai" as in "HI!", "do" as in "dough". The English pronunciation is also used since it's supposed to be an English name.) from L'Arc~en~Ciel.
So for the second year in a row, I'm writing this, again (with a few changes) in hopes further confusion can be avoided.

May 2nd...
Anniversary of Hideto Matsumoto's (hide) death :(
Heavily influenced by KISS during junior high, hide's love of music started.
1981 -1986 hide led the indie band Saver Tiger (later, Yokosuka Saver Tiger) .
1983 he started "cosmetology and fashion school", graduated with an award in 1984 and soon received his beautician license.
1987 Yoshiki of X , asked hide to join in which hide became lead guitarist and song writer including "Scars", "Love Replica", and "Sadistic Desire".
During his time with "X", he hired a band and worked on solo albums "Hide your Face" in 1994 and with his popularity he recorded his second album "Psyence" in 1996.

After X (then, X-Japan) broke up in 1997, he even went as far as working with Zilch (an American band) in hopes of doing what "X" couldn't and break into the American Market.
After his time there he went back to the back up band that helped him with his first solo album and thus "hide with Spread Beaver" was born.
Unfortunately during the making of Ja, Zoo their first album, and talking with Yoshiki on reuniting X-Japan... hide was found dead, hung to a doorknob on May 2nd 1998.

"Pink Spider" was awarded the Japanese International Viewer's Choice Award at the MTV Video Music Awards.
The remainder of the album and performances were made by voice samples and help from his brother, Hiroshi Matsumoto.
50,000+ people came to hide's funeral where the former members of X-Japan tributed him by singing "Forever Love".
The hide museum in Yokosuka was made in his honour but went down in Sept25th, 2005 due to the lack of funds...

Several tribute albums have been released including "hide Tribute: Spirits" released in 1999 which has the likes of GLAY, Siam Shade, Buck-Tick, Luna Sea, and old band mates I.N.A, Pata, heath, and Yoshiki (to name a few) re-doing hide's notable songs. 2000 "Psychommunity", and 2004 "King of Psyborg Rock Star" which includes live performances, re-mixes, and hide only, X songs.
I can only have the "Spirits" CD. :(
To this day, the "hide" section in many music stores are still sold out.

Even though this day marks the end of an era... in March of this year, Toshi (of X) announced that he a Yoshiki (of X) have started working together and hope to reform the band later this year.

Happy Birthday, Princess Rose!

From Japan and from Canada, and all other nations,
We all wish you merry from our round-the-world stations.
May your cake be delicious and your presents be grand,
And to make your day special, let us give you a hand.
Know that none of us Pockers would wish you sorrow,
Not today, nor Tuesday, or three days from tomorrow.
May this occasion be so happy it would blow you away,
And from all us at Ani-Pock, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
